Choosing a Fiberglass Pool

These days, pool buyers have more choices than ever before. They can choose from a wide range of potential pool options. One of the most common of these choices, however, is a fiberglass pool. But, with so many options available, it’s easy to feel confused about which one is best. And, while you, as a pool shopper, may be drawn toward fiberglass pools, you may also be wondering what you’re missing out on if you go for this option. Surprisingly, it’s a lot . . . but not in the way you think!

You’ll Miss Out on High Maintenance Costs

Did you know that fiberglass pools are one of the cheapest types of pools to maintain? They tend to use up to 30% less electricity than many other types of pools since they don’t get dirty as quickly or as badly, thus allowing you to run your pumps less frequently. Also, fiberglass pools don’t typically require as many chemicals thanks to their less-porous, algae-resistant surfaces. When you’re spending less on running your pool, that means you spend less on your pool overall, and those savings can really add up over time. And, isn’t spending extra money something you’d really like to “miss out” on?

You’ll Miss Out on Acid Washing

Believe it or not, acid washing isn’t just for jeans anymore! It’s a common process used to get rid of excessive staining or algae growth on a pool. Unfortunately, it’s also very harsh and can reduce the lifespan of a pool. In fact, it’s so harsh that it should really only be done in dire circumstances. Thankfully, fiberglass pools rarely, if ever, need acid washing because they aren’t likely to stain in the first place. Thus, when you choose a fiberglass pool, you are likely choosing a long-lasting pool that will never require difficult, damaging, and possibly costly care such as this.

You’ll Miss Out on Liner Replacements

Finally, know that, if you opt for a vinyl liner pool, you will likely have to replace the liner every 5 years or so, which is a big expense. You may even have to opt for a replacement sooner if your liner gets damaged, which it is prone to do. That’s not a concern with fiberglass pools, however, since they are built to last!

Ultimately, you miss out on quite a bit with a fiberglass pool, but they’re all things you want to miss out on. Thus, as you consider your pool options, be sure to lean firmly in the fiberglass direction. You won’t regret it!
