DIY Pools

For all handy 'do-it-yourselfers' out there, installing a pool without a trained factory installer may seem like the perfect challenge to try and tackle.  While you can absolutely do it yourself, there are several important reasons why you shouldn't.

If installing a pool was an easy task, the amount of factory-direct fiberglass pools companies would be plentiful.  The bottom line is while any fiberglass pool manufacturer will sell you directly; the probability for multiple mistakes is high.  Also, consider that manufactories warranties are often contingent on professional installation, so in going at it yourself, you'll most likely lose the warranties.  This fact alone should deter even the most prolific handyman from attempting on their own.

Under the best conditions, you're bound to save anywhere from $4000-$10,000.  Even professionals rarely get through a project without having to adjust or adapt for various reasons.  To effectively be the general contractor responsible for rentals, permits, and the safety of all involved is a tremendous burden.  This role has you personally on the hook if you hire a sub-contractor to help with any part of the install and they get hurt.  To dig, avoiding improper excavation requiring additional fill materials is difficult even for those with years of experience.  Also, attempting to pour cantilever concrete accurately is usually the recipe for disaster and the last straw before the experts are called in to correct the errors made.

If you’re determined to manage a project like pool installation on your own, make sure you do a ton of research and preparation, so you don't make a 30,000+ mistake.
