Are you thinking about adding a fiberglass pool to your
property? If so, be prepared to hear lots of myths and untruths about your pool
choice, often meant to scare you into choosing another pool type.
Even without meaning any harm, people tend to be misinformed
about fiberglass swimming pools and sometimes spread wrong information without meaning
to. That’s why it’s important to know the truth about fiberglass pools. That
way, you can make an informed decision about whether or not this
is the pool
type for you.
Lie #1: Fiberglass
Pools Pop Up
You may have been warned that, over time, your fiberglass
pool will start to float or will “pop up,” thus making it less secure and
leading to other problems.
Thankfully, this won’t happen if you keep your pool at the
proper fill levels and perform regular, required maintenance as needed.
Lie #2: You Can’t
Have Fiberglass Pools in Cold Areas
There’s a rumor that very cold temperatures and fiberglass
pools don’t mix. The thinking is that, when the water in the pool freezes, the
fiberglass shell will crack. However, this just does not happen. Remember,
frozen water expands upwards, not out to the sides or down to the bottom!
Of course, with that said, you should take care to prepare
your pool properly for the winter, no matter what type of pool you own.
Fiberglass pools, though, don’t need any special treatment other pools don’t
get, nor are they at an increased risk during the winter months.
Lie #3: There’s No
Customization Allowed
A final lie you may hear is that you can’t customize your
fiberglass pool, but, thankfully, that’s not true
While certain fiberglass shells are easier to find than
others due to their popularity, you can always have a custom shell designed for
you by professionals.
Plus, there are many other ways to customize your pool than
just the shell. You could, for example, add a tanning ledge, tile, or change
the color and design.
At the end of the day, remember not to believe the lies
about fiberglass pools or anything else. Educate yourself and empower yourself
to make truly informed purchasing decisions of your own.
