People
swim for all kinds of different reasons. Some do it for fun. Others do it to
increase their lung capacity. Most, however, do it to try and lose weight. If
you fall into this last category, there are some helpful tips you can follow to
increase your chances of losing weight through swimming.
Up
the Intensity
First
things first, if you’re swimming to lose weight, make sure you’re going at it
hard and fast.
When
you first start swimming, just a normal pace will be enough to get your heart
pumping. As you get more used to it, however, it will become easier, which
means you’ll burn fewer calories and less fat. The only way to compensate is to
purposefully push yourself to swim harder and faster. Try timing yourself and
tracking your heart rate to keep your swimming session as intense as possible.
Try
Water Aerobics
In
addition to swimming, try adding in some water aerobics. You could do them as a
warm-up to your swim session, enabling you to burn even more calories, or you
could replace one or two swim sessions a week with a water aerobics class.
Changing things up will help you to avoid monotony and burn-out. Plus, it will
target different muscle groups for a leaner, more toned look overall.
Add
in Some Weight
The
resistance of the water will help you to tone up as you burn off excess fat.
However, if you really want to up the intensity, try adding in some water
weights. There are weights you can strap to your ankles and wrists to wear
while you swim. You can start with a low weight and work your way up for
maximum calorie burn!
Swimming
in any way, shape, or form is good for calorie and fat burn. However, if you
add in these tips, you’ll experience even better results, and you’ll experience
them more quickly!
