Should You Chose an Inground Pool or an Above Ground Pool

Are you planning on adding a pool to your property? If so, you have a lot of decisions to make. One of the first and most important, however, is whether to add an in-ground pool or an above-ground pool.

Size

Most people think that in-ground pools are always bigger than above-ground pools. However, this is not necessarily true. You can opt for a large above-ground pool that offers you just as much area or more than your standard in-ground pool.

However, while you might get as much area, above-ground pools are usually one-depth throughout, so you’re not likely to have a shallow end and then a deep end like you could with an in-ground pool.

Lifespan

In addition to thinking about the size of your pool, you’ll also have to consider how long your investment will last. However, longevity usually has more to do with the material chosen than with the type of pool itself.

Most above-ground pools, for example, will last anywhere from 7 to 15 years, with their liners lasting up to 9 years.

With in-ground pools, how much use you’ll get is usually dependent on the type. A fiberglass pool, for example, could last a good two decades, while a vinyl pool’s liner might only last 9 years or so. Of course, longevity of any pool is also dependent on how well you care for it.

Consider how long you plan to have and use your pool, as well as the level of care that you are able to give it as you make your decision.

Maintenance

And speaking of maintenance and pool care, these definitely matter in terms of keeping your pool in excellent shape!

However, both types of pools will require about the same level of care, so this area shouldn’t factor into your decision of above-ground versus in-ground too much.

With all of that said, do your research, take your time, and consider your own wants and needs. With some guidance from professional pool experts, you should be able to easily pick the perfect pool for you!
