Should Fiberglass Pools be Perfectly Level?

When you’re installing a fiberglass swimming pool, it’s normal and wise to have plenty of questions. After all, you want to ensure your pool turns out just as perfectly as you imagined it.

A common concern people have, for example, is whether or not their pools need to be perfectly level. The answer to this question is no. In fact, very few pools are exactly level. Pardon the pun, but, It’s just too hard of a “level” to reach given the many factors involved in pool installation. With that said, though, your pool should be within the industry standards for levelness.

The One Inch Rule

So, what are the industry standards? They state that a pool can be as much as 1 inch out of level. However, the very best pool installers will typically only go a little bit out of a level, with no more than half an inch being common with quality installers.

A lot of factors determine just how level your pool can be. But, if you are concerned, talk with your installer about the levelness you can expect and whether or not it could cause any potential issues with your pool.

How Pool Molds Affect Levelness

While good pool installers can work miracles with just about any fiberglass pool, keep in mind that the pool mold you choose does matter, as does the manufacturer. Unfortunately, some molds and manufacturers are more prone to sending pools that are already out of level before they’re even installed.

Work carefully with your pool contractor to choose a quality pool that’s not likely to arrive out of level. This should help to avoid any severe leveling issues and set you up for a better experience from the start.

The Bottom Line

The good news is that pools that are out of level are not typically problematic, unless they are very out of level or unless the shift from level to unlevel occurs suddenly and forcefully. As such, do your best to choose a pool and a contractor that will level your pool properly, but don’t stress too much over this factor.
