Run Your Filter
Each day, you will need to turn your pool filter on and let
it run for at least eight to ten hours. While this minimum running time can
save on energy costs, it’s even better to run your filter twenty-four hours a
day. It might cost more, but you won’t have to remember to turn it on and off!
Plus, you’ll get better filtering results.
If you do want to run your filter less often but you don’t
have a great memory, invest in an automatic filter. These filters can be
programmed with a running schedule you set, requiring very little time on your
end.
Add Chlorine
Another daily task is to add in your required amount of
chlorine each day. How much chlorine you will need will depend on the size of
your pool and other factors. However, once you’ve determined the correct amount
of daily chlorine, you have plenty of options for administering it.
You can use a floater with slow dissolving tablets, an
automatic chlorinator, or you can manually add in chlorine each day. The key is
just to do what’s best for you and easiest for you to stick to.
Remove Large Debris
Finally, commit to removing any large pieces of debris from
your pool each day. Look for things like leaves and dead bugs, which can easily
clog up a filter and cause bacteria problems with your pool liner. Also remember to check your skimmer
baskets for any debris and to empty them daily.
If you don’t want to do the daily work of owning a pool,
remember you can always hire a professional pool service. Whether you hire
someone or do it yourself, however, you’ll find that the effort you put into
your pool is well worth the enjoyment you get out of it.
